Meet Purnell's 9th Graders

Ariel

Ariel is a 15-year-old 9th grader from Texas. Before Ariel came to Purnell she was in a large public middle school; she was also a flyer on the cheerleading squad. She also loves to sing and dance, which she can focus on at Purnell. Her favorite subject is English and Survey of Performing Arts. She loves Purnell because the teachers help her reach her goals and also help her stay organized with her school work as well. She wants to work at a clothing store for a part time job, and when she has a job she wants to be an to be an entrepreneur.

Alison

Alison is 14 years old and is from New Jersey.  Before she came to Purnell she was home schooled. Now her favorite subject is Preforming Arts and she loves to sing and act. The reason why she loves Purnell is because it is a friendly environment, and there are even a few pets here. She also thinks it feels like home. Alison plans to do a job that involves either singing, acting, or caring for animals.

Amira

Amira is a 9th grader at the Purnell school. She is 15 years old, and before attending Purnell went to a large public school in New Jersey. She came to Purnell for a small friendly environment, were the teachers care about you and want you to do well. She is involved in Adlibbers, an acting group. Her favorite class is English and performing arts. Her interests are listening to music, being with friends, doing social action work, and acting, and painting. She loves the community at Purnell and the friends she has made. She is not sure what she will do as a career, but she knows that being at Purnell will help her to accomplish any goal she sets.

Devin

Devin is an almost-15-year-old freshman at Purnell. She is from Westport, Connecticut which is two hours away from Purnell. Before coming to Purnell she was home-schooled for a year but before getting home-schooled she went to a private school for 9 years. Devin decided to come to Purnell because when she came to visit everyone was so nice and warm and she felt instantly safe.  She's very comfortable here already. For activities, she participates in a horse study because she loves horses and has always wanted to learn more about them. Her favorite subject is Science because science makes her happy and she loves doing experiments. Devin loves Purnell because you can be yourself, people don't judge you, and you can make friends in the first month. What i would love to do in my future is take over my Dad’s business, which is real estate development, and study business or science in college.

Emily

Emily is in the ninth grade at Purnell School, which is an all girls boarding school. She is 14 years old and came from China. Emily chose Purnell because she likes the climate of the school. She is out-going and kind to others. Emily is involved in dance activity at Purnell.  Emily’s favorite subject is performing arts. She loves dancing and acting. Emily has lots of hobbies. She likes doing yoga and baking. She loves teachers, students and school life at Purnell. Emily wants to study Hotel Management in the future

Emma

A freshman at Purnell School, Emma  is 15 years old. She was born and raised in Virginia, she likes to play with animals, and loves to sing. Emma is a big fan of Katy Perry and Chris Brown. She is currently working on a music video to the song, “Dynamite” that she and her friends made. She is active in Purnell’s acting program “Adlibbers,” and will be featured in an upcoming show. She likes to swim and camp out in the wilderness. Emma enjoys the freedom and support that Purnell offers. Emma hopes to attend the University of Mississippi and wants to fulfill her goal of being a social worker. She also is interested in to going to the University of California, Los Angeles in hopes of becoming a director. 

Esmé

Esme is 14-year-old ninth grader at Purnell .  She used to go to a public school where the teachers didn’t really care about the students; they just cared about getting through the day so they could rush to their next job.  She is involved in the Chinese speaking activity, and its nice being able to learn another language.  Her favorite subject is Math and science. And she loves Purnell because it’s an environment where you create a relationship with your teachers that you wouldn’t have at many other schools because here they are basically your family because they will 100% be there for you if you need them. I personally think that in the future I want to buy a mansion and live there with my family and then use the rest of the house to house people who are homeless and need a place to just get back on their feet.

Hanna

 Hanna is in 9th grade and 14years old. She’s originally from Korea and first moved to Seattle and now she lives in New Jersey. She went to both a small private school and a huge public school for middle school in Seattle. She now goes to Purnell School and the reason why she came to Purnell School was because she was looking for a small boarding school. So far, she loves the school and her favorite subjects in school are World History and French. She usually spends her free time by reading a book or watching TV shows. She might like to do fashion merchandising in the future.

Huan

Huan is in grade 9. She is a 15 years old and from China. She came to Purnell from a big private school.  When she studied in China her mom wanted her to study in the US so Huan applied to American schools.  Huan’s mom liked Purnell very much, so she choose Purnell School.  She likes to sing songs, so she joined the chorus.  Her favorite subject is Math.  She loves singing, and likes all the things about the media.  She knows Purnell is an arts school, so she likes it here.  She wants to become an agent for actors.

Kadrea

Kadrea is a 9th grader and attends Purnell School. Kadrea goes to Purnell because of the family oriented environment and the level of education opposed to her previous school. Every day she attends dance classes where different varieties of dance are expressed. She also contributes to her school with her love for music. Kadrea practices her violin and piano often and has a voice to sing. English is her favorite subject because she enjoys reading and analyzing texts. What Kadrea loves about Purnell is always being surrounded by her friends and teachers whom she can go to at any time. In the near future she would love to go to a performing arts college and later pursue a career with theater arts.

Krishawana

Krishawna is freshman at Purnell School. She is 14 years old. She is from New Jersey. She’s spent almost 8 years in a private school, then spent 2 years in public school and she loved both of them. She decided to come to Purnell because she thought it was a good educational environment and experience. In the 3 weeks she’s spent here, she has met some of the best friends ever. She is a very outgoing and friendly person which worked to her advantage because she’s met so may people. At Purnell, you must join at least one activity, and Krishawna joined 4. She is currently in Purnell Greens (eco-friendly club), Dance Activity,  Yearbook, and Steppers. She enjoys all of the activities. Her favorite subject is Science because she loves anatomy and biology. She is fascinated by genetics. Her hobbies are working with children, horseback riding, reading good novels (fiction), hanging out with her friends, shopping, traveling, visiting colleges, going to concerts, listening to music and going to the beach. Aside from all those, the thing she loves most about Purnell is how friendly and informative everyone is. Krishawna also enjoys how nice all the teachers are. In the future, Krishawna plans to go to college and leave with 5 degrees (one in Orton Gillingham, a method of teaching dyslexic kids how to read, one in special education, one in primary school education, one in administration, and one in genetics). She aspires to be a kindergarten and special education teacher and to eventually open her own school either in the USA or Africa.

Lucy

Lucy is a 9th grader at Purnell School.  She is from New Jersey and has lived there her whole life.  Lucy went to a small school for nine years before she went to Purnell.  She came to Purnell because when she visited the art room she knew that this was where she wanted to go to high school.  Lucy takes a yoga class for sports and finds it very relaxing.  Her favorite class is art, though math is growing on her more and more each class.  Lucy has always been very creative and loves to do art projects.  She loves music very much and always has her iPod. She is obsessed with drawing with sharpies, especially on her sneakers.  In the future Lucy wants to do something with design and maybe film.

 Minjoo

Minjoo is a 9th grader at Purnell School. She came to Purnell because she wanted to come to a boarding school.  She’s 15 years old and from South Korea. She went to an all girl’s private middle school.  Her favorite subject is Social Studies. She is involved in 4 activities : Purnell Greens, Roots and Shoots, Chinese Conversation, and Art Activity. She wants to be a diplomat. She likes to learn languages and she plays the flute. She can speak Korean and English. Nowadays, she’s taking a Spanish class as well. Her favorite sport is baseball.  She also likes to read books, watch movies, and listen to music. 

Nalah 

Nalah attends The Purnell School and is in the 9th grade. She is 14 years old. She is from New Jersey. She originally went to St. Philips Academy In Newark, NJ. Nalah Clark came to Purnell as a 5 day boarder. She is atttending Purnell because she wants to explore a different aspect of learning and getting to know people from all over the world. Nalah is in Shoots and Strawberries (a choir group), Steppers, and she competitively dances in Dance Synthesis. Her favorite subject is science because science is ever-changing and she enjoys all the hands on activities. Her favorite hobby is singing, and she hopes to be a professional singer/actress in the future. The one thing she loves about Purnell is that as soon as she got here she already felt like she was apart of the community and didn't feel as if she had to try very hard to fit in.
